The Union Public Service Commission notified the Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2026 on 10 December 2025 for about 451 vacancies in the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers' Training Academy (men and women, non-technical). The written examination was held on 12 April 2026, followed by SSB interviews.
The final result was declared on 2 November 2026 and lists 243 candidates across the IMA, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy courses. Applications closed on 30 December 2025.

Course-wise vacancies
Examination Notice No. 4/2026 CDS-I was issued on 10 December 2025 for 451 approximate vacancies: Indian Military Academy, Dehradun (100, including 13 for NCC 'C' Army Wing holders), Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala (26), Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (32), and Officers' Training Academy, Chennai (275 for men and 18 for women, non-technical). The notice says the numbers are tentative and may change.
Eligibility in detail
- IMA and OTA: a degree from a recognised university; Indian Naval Academy: a degree in Engineering; Air Force Academy: a degree with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level, or a B.E. degree.
- Men applying to IMA and the Naval Academy must be unmarried and born between 02-01-2003 and 01-01-2008; the Air Force Academy age band is 20 to 24 years as on 01-01-2027.
- OTA men: born 02-01-2002 to 01-01-2008. OTA women (non-technical): unmarried women, issueless widows and issueless divorcees in the same birth window.
Exam pattern
The written test on 12 April 2026 had English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics for IMA, INA and AFA, each of 100 marks and 2 hours. For OTA the papers are English and General Knowledge. Wrong answers carry negative marking.
Selection process
Qualified candidates went to the Services Selection Board for the intelligence and personality test. Final merit adds written marks and SSB marks, with minimum qualifying marks in both.
How to apply
- Applications were taken online on upsconline.nic.in until 6 PM on 30 December 2025.
- Fee was Rs. 200; women, SC and ST candidates were exempt.
Final result
UPSC declared the final result of CDS (I) 2026 on 2 November 2026, listing 243 candidates (155 for IMA, 63 for the Naval Academy and 25 for the Air Force Academy, with some names in more than one list). Medical examination results were not taken into account in these lists.
