Educational qualification

For 12 of the 13 posts the notification asks for a bachelor's degree from a university in India established under a Central, Provincial or State Act, from an institution recognised by the UGC, or an equivalent qualification. The qualification must be held on the date of the detailed notification.

The one exception is Post 04, DSP (Communications). It needs a B.E./B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, or Radio Engineering.

Age limit and relaxation

Age is counted as on 01-07-2026. The lowest limit is 18 or 21 years and the highest is 30 or 44 years, depending on the post, as shown in the table above. The notification allows these relaxations:

  • SC, ST, BC and EWS candidates: 5 years.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: 10 years.
  • Ex-servicemen and NCC instructors: the length of service rendered in the armed forces/NCC is deducted from age, plus 3 years.
  • Regular A.P. State Government employees: the length of regular State service is deducted, up to 5 years. Employees of corporations and municipalities are not covered.
  • Retrenched temporary employees of the State Census Department with at least 6 months of service: 3 years.

After these deductions, the age may not go beyond the maximum age fixed for the post.

Physical standards for DSP posts

Only Post 03 (DSP Civil) and Post 04 (DSP Communications) have physical requirements in the notification.

  • Men: at least 167.6 cm in height and 86.3 cm round the chest, with a chest expansion of at least 5 cm.
  • ST men: at least 164 cm in height and 83.8 cm round the chest, with at least 5 cm expansion.
  • Women: at least 152.5 cm in height and 45.5 kg in weight.

The notification also sets vision standards for the DSP posts, which candidates should read in the original document.

Selection process

  1. Screening Test (objective type, two papers, OMR based) on 24-01-2027. It is used to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination, and candidates equal to 50 times the vacancies are admitted to the Main Examination.
  2. Main Examination (descriptive). Dates will be announced later. Appearing in every paper is compulsory.
  3. Interview (personality test). Final selection is on merit in the Main Examination and Interview.

Each wrong answer in the Screening Test costs one-third of the marks for that question. Minimum qualifying marks on aggregate are 40% for OC, sportspersons and EWS, 35% for Backward Classes, and 30% for SC, ST and PBD candidates.

Practical tips

  • Pick your post preferences with the pay scale and age limit in mind, since preferences are collected online before the Main Examination.
  • Keep your OTPR mobile number and email active; the Commission sends OTPs and SMS alerts there.
  • Click "Save & Submit" and finish the payment. A saved but unsubmitted application is treated as incomplete.
  • Check your local status and certificates early, as the notification has detailed rules on local candidates.
