How to use the government job age calculator
- Select your date of birth exactly as written on your Class 10 certificate. Recruiting bodies only accept this date.
- Set Age as on to the cut-off date printed in the notification, usually next to the words “age as on”. Use the quick buttons for 1 January or 1 August.
- Open Check eligibility, choose the exam or type the minimum and maximum age, and select your category. The calculator adds the relaxation and tells you whether you are eligible, and the exact date-of-birth range that is allowed.
Why the cut-off date matters
Your age for a government job is not your age today. Every notification fixes one date on which the age of all candidates is counted, for example 01-01-2026 for many SSC and state exams or 1 August for UPSC Civil Services. A candidate who is 32 today may still be 31 on the cut-off date and therefore eligible, or the other way round. That is why this calculator lets you choose the date instead of using today’s date.
How the upper age limit is counted
Notifications word the upper limit in two ways. Most say the age should not exceed, for example, 32 years, which normally allows candidates until the day before their 33rd birthday. Some, like UPSC, say the candidate must not have attained 32 years, which means you must be younger than 32 on the cut-off date. When you are in your last year of eligibility the calculator warns you. The date-of-birth range printed in the notification (“born not before … and not after …”) always decides.
Tips before you apply
- Use the same date of birth in every form. Requests to correct it later are usually rejected.
- Relaxation is added only to the upper age limit. The minimum age is the same for everyone.
- OBC relaxation applies only to the non-creamy layer, and you need a valid certificate in the format asked in the notification.
- For state jobs, check the state rules. Many states give extra relaxation to women, domicile holders or state government employees. Enter those years in “Other relaxation”.
